Tireless service to the country's scholarship, science and culture. This has been the mission of our educational institution for 75 years. Generations have passed through its doors and continually filled out the ranks of our national intelligentsia. For decades the University's graduates have ensured progress in culture, education and economics.

The declaration of independence in the Republic of Armenia secured Armenia's full membership in the community of nations and provided new prospects and opportunities for the further development of our University. Of course, under such conditions we have new issues to resolve.

All spheres of national life, from defense to economics, require powerful minds and quality general and specialized education. We can only guarantee the preservation, integration and enrichment of Armenia's intellectual potential through a reformed educational system, the foundation of which must be the national university. Educational reforms must restructure Yerevan State University into an integrated educational system which will provide a multifaceted education, give priority to basic scholarly research, and integrate our primary goals of creating, exchanging and imparting knowledge. This we can achieve through the introduction of a flexible three-degree system encompassing bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees and the injection of new content in education. Quality education achieved through structural and substantive reform will ensure an international reputation for the University. It will contribute to the further international integration of Armenians and earn for the University a new and well-earned status as the national university in Armenia.
